Things in the news that annoy and irritate me

Well the government is now back open for business.   The troubling part is that it never should have been shut down in the first place.   A small group of Republicans (the Tea Party faction) basically threw a temper tantrum that’s going to cost America $25 billion.   I don’t know about you but when my child behaves badly there is always some type of consequences. As a parent, I don’t reward bad behavior.   If they want to behave like spoiled children I say we treat them as such.   I have heard the word sedition (1) thrown around.   At the very least, these folks should be required to repay the money. These idiotic, racist “tea baggers” hijacked the entire federal government and caused needless human suffering and now have nothing to show for it.   I think Ted Cruz’s name should be at the top of the list. In their efforts to make President Obama look bad, they have made America the laughing stock of the entire world.   Let’s be perfectly clear.   The reason these idiots are so u

Monogamy, Obamacare and Marissa Alexander

Does that seem like an odd title for a blog?  Perhaps but I am on serious information overload today!  You see, I was perusing Facebook as I often do to get material for my blog and I come across this post by Michael Baisden.  He posted a link for a video where there is a sociologist discussing the merits of sex outside of marriage.  Of course this piqued my interest but I couldn't get the damn thing to open....  Anyway, I began to ponder this concept and I touched on it briefly in my book (shameless plug you'll have to read the book).  Should we become more open-minded about the whole concept of monogamy?  How many marriages and families are destroyed by cheating, perhaps unnecessarily?  What if spicing things up meant having sex with someone who isn't your spouse or significant other?  Now this will not work for everyone but what if it works for some couples?  There needs to be open and honest dialogue between the parties involved.  The ground rules need to be established

Countdown to the Weekend

You can actually start your weekend early this Wednesday evening with Cocktails and Conversations.   This weekly event takes place at Ember.   This is a lovely venue and the atmosphere is chic and relaxing.   Are you looking for something a little more serious?   Well, Michael Baisden is going to be at Draft for a grown folks conversation.   Doors open at 5:00pm for both events. Tomorrow, Thursday, you can head out to the Gaylord Palms Resort for the kick-off of The Tom Joiner Family Reunion.   Janelle Monet will be starting the weekend off right with a free welcome concert.   If you still have any energy left, you can go downtown to the One80 Grey Goose Lounge for Cl9ud.   This is a beautiful venue with a breath taking view of the Orlando nighttime skyline. Besides the concert associated with the Tom Joiner Family Reunion, there is the Grand Opening of Ono downtown; Orlando’s newest nightspot for the grown and sexy.   Lance Gross will be in the building so ladies, you definit

Soooo…what are we going to do now?

I hear old George is in Texas.   It seems he got stopped for speeding the other day, had a weapon in his car and was let go with a warning.   Hmmm…?   Show of hands – how many know that if a black man was stopped for speeding in Texas and had a weapon in his vehicle his “black azz” would have been on his way to jail? Screw the ticket.   He would be face down on the pavement surrounded by law enforcement officers.   But I have wasted enough ink on “ole fat azz George” for now. I’m hearing a lot of prominent folks say that a boycott is not the way to go.   I’m hearing that it will hurt the wrong people and that it probably won’t be very effective.   Hmmm…?   I’m hearing we need to vote the wrong people out of office and vote the right people into office.   Assuming we are speaking of Republicans versus Democrats, it seems that several Democrats voted for the “Stand Your Ground Law” in its present form.   Hmmm…?   So this begs the question, how do we actually know who “the wrong pe

Justice for Trayvon? Justice for Everyone?

Today I went to a rally at the Federal Courthouse in Orlando.   It was a Vigil to honor the life of Trayvon Benjamin Martin.   Today was “The Justice 4 Trayvon 100 City Vigil.”   As I stood there and listened to the speakers and the prayers, I began to wonder why are we are still having to go through this in 2013?   As a matter of fact, one of the speakers made mention of the fact that “I thought we had already done this…”   My mother was a high school class sponsor in the 1960s.   She supported and comforted her students as they protested for our civil rights… That was nearly 50 years ago!   I did not have the opportunity to participate then because I was not born until the mid-60s…and an infant for the remainder…   Today I was proud and pleased to be able to step up and lift my voice in protest of the injustices that still exist 50 years after “I thought we had already done this…”    The name of Emmitt Till was invoked…   Is Trayvon Martin a 2013 version of Emmitt Till

So…George Zimmerman is Not Guilty, huh?

Well George, how does it feel to get away with murder? There are quite a few of us out here that would like to know.   Be honest with me now, you know there are folks walking around out here right now that are only still breathing because you don’t want to go to prison…right?   I know the certainty of my black azz going to PRISON is keeping more than a few folks breathing.   I’m just kidding everybody…sort of.   We can all use a little humor right now. The thing is though, this is really quite serious.   Because of this “Stand Your Ground Law,” any jackass with a gun can say he felt threatened and bust a cap in your child’s behind because he’s having a bad day.   Let’s be clear, Trayvon Martin was not looking for trouble.   He was simply walking home from the store.   “Billy Bad Azz” decided he wanted to “play cop” and pursue the “suspect.”   Walking home in the rain wearing a “hoodie” and being a young black male makes you look suspicious, huh George?     You did your part Ge
