The Name Calling Has Begun

Image
Wow… So many thoughts… On the first day of the campaign for Governor of  the State of Florida, Mayor Gillum’s opponent, Ron DeSantis called him a monkey.   Of course he and his campaign spokespeople say he was referring to Mayor Gillum’s policies when he said that we can’t allow him to “ monkey things up .” What the hell is that? I’ve never heard of “monkey this up.” Is that even a thing? I don’t know why anyone is surprised. This man idolizes the bigot-in-chief, 45, the big cheeto… Check out what 45 had to say about Gillum’s historic win. The monkey comment definitely sounds like something 45 would say and then have his people get on television and lie about it. These folks are unbelievable. They aren’t even trying to hide their bigotry and vitriol anymore. Mayor Gillum had a classy response and even called out 45 to “holla at him” next time he had something to say. He said it wasn’t even a dog whistle, it was more like a bull horn. DeSantis was speaking directly to t...

Last Night, We Made History in Florida

Image
Last night, the people of Florida nominated a black man, Andrew Gillum, to be the Democratic Candidate for Governor. Most of the polls didn't give this young brother a chance against the "establishment" candidate. Well, "the polls" weren't out meeting folks and talking to them and laying out his position on the issues that folks care about. They're calling it an upset. Why won't the media give Mayor Gillum credit for running an excellent campaign? It's as if it's just so far out of the realm of possibility that this young man could have the intelligence and charm to win that they have to call it an upset. Now it's up to the voters of Florida to bring it home in November. We cannot fall into the trap of running against 45. Mayor Gillum needs to continue what he's doing and run on the issues. His opponent, Ron DeSantis has made no secret of the fact that he's really, way far up 45's butt. While this is definitely an ...

We Have Lost A True Patriot

Image
We have lost a true Patriot in Senator John McCain. This article was going to look a whole lot different a few days ago. I was going to lead off with all the nonsense that's going on in the world right now but all that changed yesterday when Senator McCain passed away. Senator McCain was one of a kind. I make no secret of the fact that my opinions are left leaning but Senator McCain was not so radically partisan that he couldn't find a way to reach across the aisle and work with folks that he didn't agree with. I didn't agree with him ideologically but I am filled with admiration and respect for the man. Rest well sir, you will be missed. We have lost a voice of reason in all the turmoil. Speaking of turmoil... I literally have been trying to write this article for two or three days. Every time I was about to write the article, someone else was indicted, or granted immunity. Let's just say 45 had a really bad week last week. I refuse to call this idiot...

Trump’s “Cult-like” Supporters Don’t Care and Neither Do the Republicans

Image
The folks that voted for Trump (otherwise known as The Orange Blob with tiny baby hands) don’t give a good damn that he’s a racist, bloviated, incompetent moron. He’s their white savior who’s going to give them back THEIR country. You know the one they stole from the Indigenous People. I suppose when you’ve been in a position of superiority for centuries, you’re really not looking to give up that position. The folks that saw President Obama as a threat to their way of life, couldn’t wait to vote for the Orange Orangutan. And, some of the idiots say that they would vote for him again... I don't know why I expected anything different but you would think with all the turmoil that has happened in the last week it would "move the needle" but 45's approval rating has not gone down. It has remained steady. Two of his closest associates (Michael Cohen and Allen Weisselberg) since running for POTUS and ultimately stealing the election have been indicted or given im...

Keeping Your Sanity in the Era of the Orange Orangutan

Let me begin with a disclaimer. I don’t hate anyone but I intensely dislike the Orange Orangutan With Tiny Baby Hands who is currently occupying the Oval Office. I will NEVER refer to that vile “human being” as President anything.  For all the noise, the monkey made about President Obama being illegitimate, Donald Trump is the most illegitimate, unqualified individual to ever hold that office. Okay, now that the formalities are out of the way, how DO you keep your sanity? First, sometimes you must take a break from social media, television, even print media. Those nubby little fingers are usually quite busy and the media eats it up. Thus, he’s everywhere. If you’re anything like me, the mere sight of him of or the sound of that voice is a trigger but for our sanity, we must let it go.   I was quite vocal on Facebook immediately following the election. My friends were certain that I was going to blow a gasket. I assured them that I was okay but I had to let it go. So, in...

Things in the news that annoy and irritate me

Well the government is now back open for business.   The troubling part is that it never should have been shut down in the first place.   A small group of Republicans (the Tea Party faction) basically threw a temper tantrum that’s going to cost America $25 billion.   I don’t know about you but when my child behaves badly there is always some type of consequences. As a parent, I don’t reward bad behavior.   If they want to behave like spoiled children I say we treat them as such.   I have heard the word sedition (1) thrown around.   At the very least, these folks should be required to repay the money. These idiotic, racist “tea baggers” hijacked the entire federal government and caused needless human suffering and now have nothing to show for it.   I think Ted Cruz’s name should be at the top of the list. In their efforts to make President Obama look bad, they have made America the laughing stock of the entire world.   Let’s be perfectly cl...

Monogamy, Obamacare and Marissa Alexander

Does that seem like an odd title for a blog?  Perhaps but I am on serious information overload today!  You see, I was perusing Facebook as I often do to get material for my blog and I come across this post by Michael Baisden.  He posted a link for a video where there is a sociologist discussing the merits of sex outside of marriage.  Of course this piqued my interest but I couldn't get the damn thing to open....  Anyway, I began to ponder this concept and I touched on it briefly in my book (shameless plug you'll have to read the book).  Should we become more open-minded about the whole concept of monogamy?  How many marriages and families are destroyed by cheating, perhaps unnecessarily?  What if spicing things up meant having sex with someone who isn't your spouse or significant other?  Now this will not work for everyone but what if it works for some couples?  There needs to be open and honest dialogue between the parties involved....
